What are your opinions? Do you think it should be re-introduced?

Quite, but I was shocked when I asked this question in a dorm a few weeks ago. The two boys from private school said no, the two boys from a rough (as in regular murders and assult everyday either on student or in school) said HELL YES! They said that teachers have no respect from students and they have no real way to enforce their authority.

I think what it comes down to is that when they took away the cane they replaced it with nothing. Detention are useless no-one cares about them but geeks. To be honest my onbly problem with the cane is tht you will get a sadistic teacher who abuses his/her right to use it.

Re-introducing the cane has it's merits, in my opinion, however it's a tad too 'extreme' to be used as a modern disciplinary means; a happy medium is required in order for respect and discipline to be prevalent once more in our school-system...I dunno, maybe introducing a sort of 'menial task' punishment system I.E. mopping floors, sweeping the grounds etc would deter problematic youngsters.

Maybe, but then again, the P.C Brigade would find fault in that...

I'd love to see the PC brigade try and teach one day of school. They'd be saying very un-PC things within an hour....
